Mid-Semester Presentation Review

So just this week gone we were asked to present all the work we had done so far for our final year projects. Tension was high in the camp as everyone tried to finish of any final touches on the work they had done so far.

Ian my supervisor told me to mainly concentrate on my rough cut in the presentation. We were each given a 7 minute window to present so I prepared a quick 2 minute presentation summing up everything I had done since January leaving the remainder of the time for my rough cut hoping the work would speak for itself. In my presentation I focused on the Interviews I had done so far, my workflow in the editing room and my plans for the last month of the semester.

Password is the subject matter. 5 letters. Come on.

As we only had a 3 hour slot for everyones presentations so the feedback from the panel was short if not nothing. The general response for mine was quite good I think.

Someone mentioned they all looked comfortable and were given great answers which can be the hardest thing to get right in interviews, other comments included fixing audio levels and trying to stick with a particular style for my cutaways and interviews (which I’ve already been discussing with my supervisor the past few weeks).

Over the next few weeks I’m going to begin an Internet social media campaign in support of my documentary through facebook and twitter. Before I do that I need to hone in what I want to call the documentary.

The best and funniest name I’ve thought of so far and friends have recommended  include “luke byrne investigates, a luke into songwriting, songwriting 101 with luke byrne”

Here’s my slides from the presentation:

The Art of Interviewing

wow.

Interview Lecture with Maria Brown

Interviews

So in preperation for are forthcoming mock-interview for WIDM ( Which may i add is worth 15%….Eeek!), Maria Brown of are very own ITB came into are class to talk to us about interview tips and techniques and gernerally how to handle yourself in an interview!

First of all let me tell you about this mock-interview. As I was saying for are module Working In Digital Media we will be having a mock-interview in the next week or so. For the Interview Brief, we were giving several different Job Title’s/Desriptions that are within the Digital Media Industry for example to name a few;

  • Web Designer
  • Graphic Designer
  • Sound Engineer
  • Photographer

I have chosen to apply for the photography position myself because it was the one that most appealed to me aswell as having been brought up in a photography type background, that being my uncle being a photographer for the Irish Times, as well as my mam having a huge interest in it too. TRIGGER HAPPY as they say!

The Lecture itself was very benifitial I learned alot of things I didn’t know before.

Maria opened with saying the most important thing to do for any interview is Preperation.. It will determine who will be the nervous one’s on the big day. She also stressed that you must know your Cv, as through Maria’s expeirence you wouldn’t believe the amount of times people forget what they actually put down on there Cv leaving a very awkward time for the interviewee’.. If this has happened to you before in an interview..Needless to say you probably didn’t get a call back. So what she was trying to say

  • TIP 1) KNOW YOUR CV!*

When in an Interview you are selling yourself to the company basically so

  • TIP 2) STAY POSITIVE IN EVERYTHING YOU SAY!*

Even if the thing you are speaking about is quite negative such as a problem you previosuly had with a customer in a previous job position and say how you benifited from your expierence.

& Last but not least, first impressions really do make a Difference ( with a capital D) so…

  • TIP 3) DRESS APPROPIATLEY AND MAN SUIT UP!

All in all it was a very good lecture to have before the Interview, Maria was lovely and anwsered any quesitions we had about the interview.

**UPDATE**

So I had my interview on Thursday.

Thought it went deadly! It’s funny how you kinda grow in confidence when wearing a suit, thought I handled all my questions well, and made a very Optimistic impression of myself ( BIG SMILES). Only got one slightly weird question, was asked what would I say to a class if I was telling them about Photography. Just cause it was such a broad question didn’t know where to start but I handled the question grand in the end.

Now we must sit and wait to get are feedback!

Anywho Interview over, last week of college this week.

HAPPY DAYS.
